Start Smart – Constructive Conversations Day 4 - CLARIFY

ELD Objective(s):

Students will interpret a text by combining clauses to make connections to join ideas, using CLARIFY phrases (e.g., more specifically it is  ___ because ___,etc.) by explaining their ideas to a partner and writing notes.

Students will get an overview of the Conversation Norm

  1. The lesson went well. I delivered it twice to two different classes. The Model for the clarifying skill was very clear, and students were able to highlight the Language of skills. Although today I didn't review the norms, students were still referring to and include it as part of their evaluations.

    Glows
    - Lesson had a very strong Model Example
    - Lesson sequence Model, Non Mode, and Independent provided the students with the opportunity to develop clarifying language.

    Grows:
    - I needed to develop a power point presentation
    - I needed to review the clarifying prompts and responses with students before we started
    - Students are bored with the pictures originally presented, I had to pick up a different picture.
    - ELD objective sentence needs to be changed from Create phrases to Clarify phrases
