Glows:
ReplyDelete- The sentence frames that comes from the constructive conversation skills are very helpful for our population
- questions and statements are geared toward CREATE with language which a skill that mostly needed in our classes
- The routine that the lesson plan establishes allows effective delivery of instruction
Grows:
- Need to modify the picture for Independent practice
- Need to look into ways to make the lesson more student - centered
- Lesson was too long, maybe shorten the modeling for each of the Norms ( or could be done during the model and non model)
I don’t think length is the problem. Learning the norms isn’t identified as a lesson objective, so the time spent defining the terminology, watching models and non-models, and discussing in pairs seems both tedious and pointless. This could be resolved by stating at the beginning that learning the norms IS a primary objective of the lesson.
DeleteI totally agree with you on this one
DeleteGlows:
ReplyDelete- The PPT made the lesson MUCH more accessible.
- Posters and handouts reinforced learning.
- Sandra added a vocabulary review that isn’t in the lesson plans. This reinforced learning and gave the students another opportunity to speak.
Grows:
- Many editing errors in the PPT. This is especially problematic because ELs rely on us to demonstrate correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc.
- The lesson is too teacher-centered, especially in the beginning. We need to engage students from the outset.
- No kinesthetic element to the lesson; it’s all watching and listening, with some discussion along the way. Modeling the gesture for CREATE would be a start, but more is needed. Students need to MOVE.
- Designating “volunteers” ahead of time would eliminate those awkward moments when everyone is waiting for someone else to do something.
Thank you very much, yes there were some errors that needed to be fixed. I think feedback is very important to pin point these errors, and have them fixed.
ReplyDeleteGood point for the Kenesthetic element this is really so crucial specially that we do have large SpED population.
